EK II 1914, 1- Medal Bar Nicht Kämpfer/ Non-combatant
Non-combatants/Nicht Kämpfer/civillians could also be awarded with the Iron Cross.”A medal for bravery without class distinction. Anyone, a soldier, civilian or a King, was eligible for the First and Second Class”.
The only difference is the ribbon. Instead of predominantly black for combatants, the ribbon is predominantly white. With around 13000 awards for Nicht Kämpfer/ Non-combatants, against 5196000 Combatans, they are very rare and hard to find. There is no difference in the crosses only in the ribbons.
The cross has a three piece construction and has a magnetic core. The cross is period mounted on a so-called ‘Einzelspange’. It comes with its functional pin/catch attachment for mounting it on a tunic. Nice example in very good condition!
